Beatrice's story
Beatrice the hen was raised in a cage, with barely room to spread her wings. Dimly lit, noisy and crowded, every day was filled with frustration and misery. She was one of the lucky ones. Beatrice was rescued from her cage by Mia, an animal welfare specialist at The Humane League.
When she was rescued, Beatrice was in a heartbreaking condition. She was missing feathers all over her body:
Slowly but surely, she began her recovery in her new home. With fresh air, space, and love, she grew into such a friendly, curious hen. She loved playing in the garden with Mia's family and the other hens, and she’d often stand by Mia's feet, chatting away. Her feathers grew back beautiful and luscious too.
Beatrice sadly passed away recently, after spending her final months enjoying a life full of freedom and love with Mia.
No hen deserves to be confined to a cage. In Beatrice's name we are continuing the fight to end cruel cages in the UK. Will you stand with us?
